Dow Canada Announces Fort Saskatchewan Expansion

Posted On Friday January 31, 2020

Dow Canada will be increasing their existing ethylene production capacity in Fort Saskatchewan by about 130,000 tonnes per year with the addition of a processing furnace.

The expansion was announced last week by Dow CEO Jim Fitterling during the release of their 4th quarter results and reiterated by Dow Canada staff during the Stakeholder Luncheon hosted by Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association on January 30th

The estimated capital cost of the expansion is $225 million USD and is expected to be operational in the first half of 2021.

This announcement, along with previous positive investment decisions by InterPipeline Ltd and Canada-Kuwait Petrochemical Corp to build multi-billion-dollar on-purpose polypropylene facilities in the region, further demonstrates investor confidence in the petrochemical sector in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland and the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
